Agios Nikolaos in Thassos town is a small church, the oldest of the island, built beside the sea. It stands out with its very special architecture, indicating prima facie the seniority.

The temple was built around 835 After Christ, when Thassos was under Byzantine rule, over remains of ancient buildings. Since then, a jewel of the city, which through the centuries has always been an important residential center for the island.
